It's been a long time coming but I thought you'd like to see my new Kitchen.
Frankly, this renovation almost killed us. But we managed to get it done and stay married.
Remember when we moved in and it looked like this?

See that wall on the left side?
We made some large structural changes to the kitchen by removing the wall between the existing dining room and kitchen. This made room for a peninsula and created a better traffic flow for our family. It also served to open up the entire main floor. The light in there is amazing now and the house feels so much larger!
Here is a view of the dining room, from the living room at the front of the house:
You can see the peninsula and how removing the wall created an open and airy feel.
I love the view from here.
As a result of opening up that wall between the kitchen and dining room, we had to close up the large, non-functioning doorway in the hallway. It was an amazing french door - 4 feet wide! But it was warped in the hinges and wouldn't even open. I'm taking suggestions as to how to repurpose it.

I love the ceiling we installed. It might be my favourite thing about the new kitchen. Especially since it was a dropped ceiling before.
So there you have it. Hope you like it as much as I do!
I'm back now so you'll see more regular posting again. The renos are done, the kids are settled in at school. I'm looking forward to putting a little more personality into the spaces we've finished. I'll keep you posted!
xo Meg
Oh wow. I love it! What a change. Removing that wall was so smart. We have a wall - well... 3 walls - that we're hopefully going to bring down and I can't wait to find out how much more open and bright it's going to make the whole house.
ReplyDeleteMeg, what a transformation!!! All that hard work paid off in a major way, great work! I love the corbels under the penninsula ledge and the butcher block counter top. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! The ceiing, the tile, the lights- it's all so perfect. Great job :)
ReplyDeleteSo many wonderful details! Glad to hear that you love your new kitchen - that's the most important thing. By the way, I love your furnishings. I'm a fan of mix-and-match wood that look like they have a story :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic Meg! Amazing what opening up a wall can do for a space! Such a classic, clean look for this kitchen. Can't wait to see how you infuse your personality...
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen looks great. I love a white kitchen!
ReplyDeleteAmazing!! Congratulations. Can't believe you did that on your own - so impressive. It looks terrific. Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteOh Meg! I absolutely love it! It really is gorgeous - simple, but beautiful. Exactly what I would do myself. :)
ReplyDeleteDo you find yourself just staring at your new kitchen? I would and from every angle. I do that when I reorganize a closet.I can't imagine how great it must feel to have that satisfaction. It's just gorgeous. I really love the ceiling and the corbels you used on the island. You did a great job maintaining your home's vintage charm while making it open and airy. Enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing! The ceiling is my favorite part as well.. Great job!
ReplyDeleteOh Meg, this is AMAZING! Where do I even start? That ceiling is absolutely gorgeous. Seriously, you guys outdid yourselves there. All the structure changes are great. Such a huge improvement, both in the kitchen and the other rooms. I love the open shelving, I love the counter tops and of course I always love subway tile :). All your hardwork was more than worth it!
ReplyDeleteps. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger? Or, is it too soon to laugh about it :)
You rocked it Meg!! It is luscious and you should be VERY proud. WAHOO!!! It looks ah mazing!

Gorgeous! We are just getting ready to rip out our ceiling so you can't even know how you've inspired me! We are also doing a wood ceiling and I'm totally pinning your gorgeous ceiling as inspiration! Thanks Meg!
ReplyDeleteI love the ceiling too. Wish we had done something special like that in our kitchen reno. But in the end, you know, it is about staying sane and preserving the relationship. Congrats on your success! It looks so great and you are still married ;-)
