Backyard Zones and Inspiration

I don't know about you, but all this outside work is making me think about relaxing in the summertime.

I love a backyard party in the summer.  I love to entertain in our backyard.  There's lots of work to do before that can happen but we're basically creating a few zones in our yard.

 First, there's the dog area.

We are fortunate enough to have a big yard.  Gilmore loves to run around and he is often outside for hours at a time.  So we need to make sure there's enough room for shennannigans and stick throwing.

Second, there's a firepit area.

We are building one similar to this one.  Our resin wicker lounge furniture will be going around the firepit for comfy seating.  And I'm also considering cantina string lights.  I've always wanted them and I think I can work them in back there.

The third sone is our eating area.  I still have to clean and condition our teak table and chairs.  They are looking pretty grey and worn but a little elbow grease goes a long way, right?

So many projects, so little time.

How's your backyard looking?

  1. I really think it's smart to do what you're doing and think of your outside area in zones much like you would for inside as well. That is a great firepit and I can't wait to see how you go about doing yours.

  2. My backyard is under construction. We also have zones - eating, lounging and (eventually) for playing. I always dream of doing a nice styled backyard but I keep getting sidetracked by the inside!

  3. I love that you put the dog area first in your list! If you're like us, your canine family members come first :-)

That fire pit is gorgeous! Can't wait to see your finished yard. It sounds like it will be amazing. Our yard is a blank slate. We had a new fence put up last fall and all the scrubby bushes removed. It's exciting but also a bit intimidating. Not sure where to start! When it comes to landscaping, I know what I like but have no idea how to accomplish it.

  4. My backyard is in flux. Doing lots of work and it never seems 'finished'. But when is anything ever finished?

  5. Love your inspirations. The past few days I've managed to get out and start the long, hard work of cleanup in the backyard. It was all the stuff I'd neglected last season and man, am I regretting that!
